If you have a “squirrel mind” or a case of the blues, chances are that it is caused by excess stress or anxiety going on in your life. This causes poor memory and cognitive functions, which would really take away from your overall efficiency. Luckily, there are a number of essential oils that you can use to improve the zen of your brain and allow yourself to maintain a much sharper mind! Who doesn’t need some extra help in the brain department without the cost of a Starbucks?
If you are new to Essential Oils, Please check out my Essential Oils 101 post Here.
- Lavender: If you feel a lot of stress over the course of your day, lavender should be your go to. Stress on the brain damages neurons and makes it difficult for you to focus on anything this is actually important. The nutrients present within this oil stimulate the production of dopamine and serotonin in your body, which is a very important tool when it comes to managing stress levels. If you’re like me, managing work, kids and a household you might want to swim in a pool of lavender.(Joking, please don’t do that). With these chemicals regularly being released, your mind will be at ease and you will be able to work in a less stressful way. I suggest Lavender in a diffuser or roller, mixed in a warm bath with Epsom salts or as a pillow spray.
- Frankincense: This oil has a long history of being used to improve health. Frankincense oil reduces symptoms associated with menstruation and menopause as it helps balance hormone levels. It can help relieve pain, headaches, anxiety or feelings of stress, nausea, fatigue and mood swings. Bonus: Frankincense is known as a powerful Anti-Aging and wrinkle fighter. Frankincense is a powerful astringent and does wonders as part of your skin care. See more HERE I personally use a Frankincense skin care routine but I also like to add a few drops to a hot bath or to a diffuser to help fight any feelings of stress I am fighting. It is a great one to use during yoga or meditation as well. This is such an important oil that there is a favorite saying in the Essential Oil community, “When in doubt, Frank it out”. Ha ha!
- Vetiver: If you have gone through a difficult period of your life, you might be suffering from some form of emotional trauma. Emotional trauma also tends to impact your sleep, which is why you should try to treat it as soon as you can. Vetiver is a great solution for this, it relaxes you and calms you down and helps you sleep a lot better so you can get over your trauma and start working at full capacity again in no time at all. This is one I use every single night! Not only do I use it to help with my sleep but I use it in a roll-on for my toddler when he is struggling to sleep. I frequently mix it with Lavender.
- Lemon: If you’re looking for something to help you start your day on those god awful Monday mornings. Lemon oil is a popular choice for people that lack energy. If you are not working at full capacity it is because you just don’t have the energy to do so, and your brain needs a lot of energy in order to keep working properly. Using lemon oil regularly you will find that your energy levels will rise through the roof, allowing your brain to work a lot faster. I often mix a citrus oil with a mint oil as a pick me up. Lemon with Peppermint. Orange with Spearmint. Bergmont with Eucalyptus. I find this combo to be really great to run first thing in the morning as a pick me up!
Your concentration and memory are both going to get a lot stronger once you start using these essential oils!
