OK … I am probably lying , these may not be better than a triple shot Starbucks but they are the energy of coffee in a pretty bowl. If you have have not jumped on the smoothie bowl train yet you are missing out. They are fun to make and to eat.
The Basics :
To get a nice stick to the spoon smoothie bowl follow this general formula:
2-3 tablespoons of protein+ 1/3 cup liquid+ 1 cup fruit to thicken + handful or two of greens + toppings
Protein Options: tofu, nut butters, greek yogurt, beans
Liquid Choices: coconut water, milk, non-dairy milk (my fav), veggie or fruit juice
Fruit: banana (frozen preferably), fresh avocado, apple, frozen berries, fresh peaches
Greens: kale, spinach, romain
Extra Energy (Optional): bee pollen, maca, cacao
Put it all in the blender for a quick whirl and then pour into a bowl.
Next step is to have fun with some Toppings: fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, chia, ground flax seed, toasted coconut, granola, carob or chocolate chips, goji berries, pomegranate seeds, a drop of essential oil (pepermint, lemon or ginger*) … truly the choices are endless!
Note: chia seeds absorb liquid, so they will also help thicken your smoothie if you end up with one thats a little too thin
